Oprah Beauty Mask

Postby AbsorbingMelinda » Sun Apr 12, 2009 4:17 am

I was watching an episode of the Oprah Show the other day and she had an interesting topic about the 'beauty mask' I had heard of this before... you can google it. It has to do with Golden Geometry and the Golden Mean (basically a mathematical equation of how to 'detect' beauty in any gender or race.)

They said they judge on a scale of 1-10, 10 being most beautiful. Angelina Jolie only received a 7.76 I believe. They said the thing that docked her points was actually what she is most famous for, her lips, because according to this math they off set her face. They said although no one has never been a 10, yet.... Brad Pitt is the closest at 9.93.

Funny, I think she is an 11 haha.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Mel! I'd never heard of it up to now. I'll try to do the experiment with the mask on a photo of me and see what happens, haha! I kinda believe that Angelina didn't hit the 10. Proportional doesn't mean beautiful! With AJ it's not just in the facial features, but how she employs them; her mimics and her intensity is what grabs you! She's unique!

Ha no prob. It goes deeper than just facial beauty, it's also in the cathedrals in Europe, cars... something as simple as a sea shell. It's all about ratio and how it fits with itself making something that is pleasing to the eye.

It's funny though, I honestly believe Angelina is one of the most beautiful women in the world so that beauty mask rule doesn't apply to my opinion. There is something behind Angelina's eyes, something about the way she doesn't apologize for being truly herself that I love. She is a magnet of charisma.

magnet is definitely the word i would use for angelina and all the various ways she appeals to most of the planet. haha.

i have heard about this before from somewhere and that symmetry and proportion is what catches ours eyes or some bs like that.

i would definitely want to try that out though and see how i would rank. anyone have a link?

It's not surprising that she would be a little off. Maybe she would not be admired so much for her beautiful face if her lips were the perfect size for her face. Everyone is more or less, off. The perfect, symmetrical face would be boring to us. Why? Because it's in perfect balance and there is nothing that interesting or "eye catching" about it.

So, what is most appealing to people? A little close to symmetrical because there is one feature or two that stands out from all the other balanced features, therefore, it keeps us looking for longer.

I found the beauty mask template on beautyanalysis.com it's a plastic surgeons website I think... he's known for doing tons of research on this subject. I stuck my pic and my fiance s pic on adobe photo shop and this is what I came up with....Image

Also, there is something out there called the St. Andrews face morpher which shows how you would looks as different races. From there, there are links to other sites about beauty perception etc... I found them quite interesting!

This is how they said I would look as a E. Asian! Pretty cool!
